The austenitic and unstabilized nature of this stainless steel grade is notable. The letter L following the grade number denotes that this stainless steel is of a low carbon kind. Due to their low carbon content, these fasteners are not susceptible to sensitization during welding, which would otherwise lead to intergranular corrosion. This high-alloyed stainless steel has copper added to the alloy to boost its resistance to reducing acids like sulfuric acid.
